Historic Deerfield will commemorate the 312th anniversary of the 1704 Raid on Deerfield with the free Winter Lecture Series, In Harm's Way: Conflict and Captivity Before the French and Indian War. The first lecture, on January 24 at 2 p.m., will be presented by Peter Thomas, Retired Associate Professor of Anthropology, University of Vermont, on "Rethinking King Philip's War in the Connecticut River Valley: Pushing Beyond Old Assumptions." On February 28 at 2 p.m.,Kevin Sweeney, Professor of American Studies and History at Amherst College, will present "Raiding and Captive Taking along the New England and New York Borders 1688-1748." On March 20 at 2 p.m., Lisa Brooks, Associate Professor of English and American Studies, Amherst College, will present "Colonization and Captivity in Native Space." The final lecture in the series, "The Line of Forts: An Eighteenth Century DEW Line," will be presented on April 24 at 2 p.m. by Michael Coe, Professor Emeritus, Yale University.
