Lars, a sweet but delusional young man, finds true love. Unfortunately, his new girlfriend is an inflatable doll. Although the premise is quirky, the film is actually about human kindness, a topic unfortunately missing from too many films. The result was called “deeply satisfying,” (Roger Ebert), “an endearing, intelligent and tender comedy,” (Joe Morgenstern) and “a work of art” (Premiere). Ryan Gosling, Emily Mortimer, Paul Schneider, R.D. Reid. 2007. Dir: Craig Gillespie. Color 106 min. PG-13.
