Moonlight Magic Returns to Shelburne Falls Business District
After a break in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a dedicated group of business owners and volunteers is bringing back a beloved tradition to the Shelburne Fall business district. A celebration of lights and community, Moonlight Magic returns to Bridge Street, Shelburne and Buckland MA on Friday, September 26 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Bridge Street will be closed from the Arms Library to the Buckland side of the Iron Bridge to support a pedestrian mall full of craft and food vendors, festively decorated restaurants and unique shops. Special store sales are sure to help attendees find the perfect gift for holiday giving.
Luminaria will line the downtown area and white lights will encircle the lampposts on Bridge, State and Conway Streets. Holiday trees will be located around the village. The Community Holiday Tree will be lit bright next to the Shelburne Falls Visitors Center, another tree will be located on the Great River Hydro's fishing deck on Conway Street on the Buckland side of the Deerfield River. The largest tree will be sited on the Bridge of Flowers. The bridge’s railing will have white lights and snowflakes used on set and donated by the television series Dexter. The series filmed a number of scenes in Shelburne Falls in the early spring of 2021.
“We invite everyone from ages one to ninety-two (and up) to celebrate with our lively and spirited holiday festival this year, there’s something for all,” says Amanda Carter, one of the organizers of the event.
Laurie Wheeler, Director of the Arms Library is glad to see the return of Moonlight Magic. “In addition to the beauty of the night, and seeing everyone, a good portion of the library’s programming budget comes from the proceeds of the annual Moonlight Magic book sale.” Book lovers and supporters of the library will be able to peruse and purchase books from the new outdoor format the library is hosting this year.
Other activities include the Parade of Lights starting at 5pm in Buckland on Conway Street starring Santa and Mrs. Claus, a Boat Parade sponsored by Adventure East, Ornament Scavenger Hunt, Truffle Shuffle by Mo’s Fudge Factor, and Cider and Cookies will be offered by the Greenfield Northampton Cooperative Bank. There is no admission charge and parking is free. (Free shuttle rides are offered.)
