SUMMARY:The Art of Onge Opening Reception at Hawks & Reed
DESCRIPTION:Andrea "Onge" Newland grew up in Monson\, MA\, and attended the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston graduating in 2006 with a degree in Art Education and Painting. While there she did a semester abroad at SACI in Florence\, Italy. After living in Boston for 9 years Andrea returned to Western Mass and currently resides in Northampton. \n\n\n\nHer paintings range from portrait to abstract where worlds collide in a kaleidoscope of color. Realism meets with abstraction creating an Eye Spy that the viewer finds personal meaning in. Creatures from giraffes to musicians inspire her work to record the beauty that is all around us. "Mini Masterpieces" are small pen drawings with watercolor on paper showing humorous moments of life.\n\n\n\nIn addition to painting\, Andrea creates costume and set design for Greene Room Productions\, the music collective Llama Lasagna\, Bella's Bartok\, NCTV Crowd Source Cinema and the short film Father Willie. She has been commissioned for illustrations for musicians poster designs and murals for kids rooms\, yoga studios and breweries. A board member of Monson Arts Council\, Andrea organizes workshops for local kids to get crafty and directs the Summer Art Camp through Monson Parks and Recreation.\n\n\n\nThe Art of Onge will run through May 15.
