SUMMARY:Indigenous Stories and Histories of the Kenetekw - A Riverboat Cruise
DESCRIPTION:David Brule\, local historian and Chairman of the Nehantic Tribal Council\, will join Rich Holschuh\, Elnu Abenaki spokesman\, in a session of story-telling focused on Indigenous perspectives of the Connecticut River while we cruise on the Heritage Riverboat.\n\n\n\nThey will share traditional oral histories as well as reviewing some of the recent findings of research on local events of the King Philips War (1676).\n\n\n\nRich Holschuh is a resident of Wantastegok (Brattleboro\, VT) and is immersed in the stories layered within this landscape. He has served 7 years with the Vermont Commission on Native American Affairs and acts as a public liaison and cultural relations representative among contemporary communities. Rich is the founder and director of the Atowi Project. LOCATION:This cruise is scheduled to depart from the dock at our Riverview Picnic area at the foot of Ferry Road in Northfield. Typically\, cruises head downstream about 5.5 miles to Barton Cove before returning to the Riverview dock. The duration of the cruise is approximately 1.5 hours.
