SUMMARY:Greenfield Community College Chorus Concert - Spring Season
DESCRIPTION:Preview Concert "Morning and Evening." The GCC Chorus will be under the direction of  Margery Heins\, with soloists from the chorus\, and with Marilyn Berthelette\, Accompanist.\n\nThe concert\, comprised of sacred and secular choral music from the Renaissance to the present\, is a preview of a longer program to be given later in the semester. Currently the chorus is  working on a variety of music in several languages with texts about morning and evening\, as well church music from evening services. The March 10 preview will include Renaissance motets by Thomas Tallis and Christopher Tye\, Francis Pilkington's famous lullaby-madrigal "Rest\, Sweet Nymphs\," a cheerful Ralph Vaughan Williams folk song\, traditional rounds\, William Henry Smith's exciting spiritual arrangement "Ride the Chariot\," and "The Moon is Distant from the Sea" by New Zealand composer David N. Childs. The Childs piece was published in 2004\, and has achieved considerable notoriety. It is constructed with gentle contemporary harmonies and rhythms\, setting poetry by Emily Dickinson.\n\nConductor Margery Heins will talk to the audience about the program and the music.
