SUMMARY:Art For/Is Life: Elder Artists Share Their Stories
DESCRIPTION:The highlight of the Deerfield Valley Art Association's 65+ art exhibit in the Hawks & Reed Performing Arts Center's Pushkin Gallery during ArtWeek will be the Memory Art - Art For/Is Life - event on May 1. Working with volunteers from Silverthorne Theater Company and the DVAA\, seniors from around Franklin County (and anyone who joins in) will create a simple work of art (collage\, clay\, drawing\, whatever!) that illustrates a particular moment in their life. Participants will use the artwork to tell their stories to the group and Silverthorne Theater Company scribes will take down their words\, later displaying these integrated works during Silverthorne's performance of Athol Fugard's play\, The Road to Mecca\, which tells the true story of an aging Afrikaner widow who creates unusual sculptures. \n\nLearn more about ArtWeek.
