34th Annual Welcome Yule: A Midwinter Celebration
Welcome Yule celebrates the return of the light with a festive family show filled with music, dance, songs and stories to drive the dark away.
This year Welcome Yule travels back through its history as we observe the return of the sun on the morning after winter solstice. The coming of winter foreshadows cold dark times, but with the Yule sunrise comes the promise of the return of light, warmth and rebirth. In our mythical village, over the years, we have joined together to celebrate the bounty of the harvest at the end of the old year and the magical beginning of the new year in different centuries and cultures.
This year we hope to capture the importance of tradition and the passing on of culture between generations. Many of Welcome Yule’s favorite wassailing songs and carols will be on the program, along with some new pieces. Border morris, a mummers play, the Abbots Bromley Horn Dance and the passing of the Yule log will also be included.
